Borussia Mönchengladbach have signed French attacker Marcus Thuram on a four-year deal from Guingamp. He will wear the No.10 shirt.

The 21-year-old, who is the son former FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship-winning defender Lilian Thuram, joins Gladbach after an impressive campaign in France’s Ligue 1.

The forward was the leading light in a Guingamp side that finished bottom of the league and featured in all four matches for France at this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Italy, where the attacker was in fact born during his father’s five-year spell at Parma.

"We're very happy that we were able to sign Marcus," said Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl. "He's a fast, robust and dangerous forward who fits very well in our squad and we're sure he will make his way in the Bundesliga."

Like his father, Thuram has also represented France, seen here at the U21 Euros in 2019.

Playing predominantly on the left wing, Thuram made 32 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing one assist. Those goals contributed almost one third of Guingamp’s total for the season.

New Gladbach head coach Marco Rose will see Thuram as a replacement for Borussia Dortmund-bound Thorgan Hazard, being adept at both running past defenders at pace and coming inside onto his stronger right foot to shoot. Six of his league goals came from that boot, while the 6’2’’ European U19 champion from 2016 also netted three more with his head.
