Müller on target in Germany draw
Thomas Müller was on target as Germany drew 1-1 in a friendly with the Netherlands as they continue their preparations for this years World Cup.

Head coach Hansi Flick made four changes to his side following the victory over Israel at the weekend, with Manuel Neuer returning between the posts, and Leroy Sane, Antonio Rüdoger and Müller all back in the line-up. Neuer was called into action early on when Teun Koopmeiners was afforded a free header at a corner, but the Bayern Munich goalkeeper produced a superb reflex save. Sane and Kai Havertz both went close at the other end as Germany sought to respond, and they took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Jamal Musiala’s cross from the byline was only cleared as far as Müller, who lashed in a powerful left-footed strike from near the edge of the box.
Die Mannschaft could have made it 2-0 early in the second period when Sane drew four players to him on the counter-attack before finding the unmarked David Raum arriving in the box, but the Hoffenheim midfielder, perhaps overly eager for a maiden international goal, blazed his effort over the bar. It was an opportunity Germany would come to rue, as the hosts pulled level a quarter of an hour later when substitute Steven Bergwijn slammed in Denzel Dumfries’ headed knock-down from close range. The Netherlands were awarded a penalty just two minutes later for a foul by Thilo Kehrer on Memphis Depay, but the referee overturned his decision after consulting the pitch-side monitor. A spate of substitutions followed, disrupting the flow of the game somewhat, but Lukas Nmecha still had a chance to score the winner following a wonderful pass from Müller, but Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken was equal to his shot.

- Van Gaal oversaw 96 matches in charge of Bayern between July 2009 and April 2011. In 2009/10, the Dutchman won a Bundesliga-DFB Cup double, and reached the UEFA Champions League final.

Germany took the lead just before the break through Müller's well-taken effort, which was cancelled out after the interval by Dutch substitute Bergwijn. It's the first time Die Mannschaft haven't won under Flick, but it will no doubt have been a useful test against tough opposition with a view to tightening screws ahead of the World Cup.
