Incoming RB Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch faced the media for the first time since agreeing to replace Bayern Munich-bound Julian Nagelsmann at the end of the season, revealing his excitement "to work with such a good team."
Marsch - who signed a two-year contract at the Red Bull Arena this week - was speaking ahead of current side Salzburg’s Austrian Cup final this weekend as the 47-year-old American looks to bow out of the country with a second successive league and cup double.
Unsurprisingly, talk turned to the announcement of his Leipzig appointment and the Wisconsin-native spoke excitedly - in German - about returning to the club that he served as assistant to Ralf Rangnick in 2018/19.
"Leipzig is a club I know very, very well, many of the staff and coaches at the academy and certainly the players in the team," he said. "I played a role in a lot of the players’ development and I know them very, very well. And I think what I’m most looking forward to is the quality and the possibilities with this team."
Known for his front-foot footballing philosophy, how Marsch’s Leipzig will line-up next season is an exciting prospect.
But the former USA international hinted that he has plenty up his sleeve to counter the challenges posed by his counterparts in the dugout of Germany’s top-flight next term.
He added: "A clear plan is important, no matter what the philosophy is. I don’t find it so interesting to have the same plan for every game in every team against every opponent.
"Yes, it’s important about adapting an idea from football, but adapting to what is important. To have success with a special group.
"And I’m really looking forward to this chance to work with such a good team."
