Aged just 17, Bremen-born Woltemade became Werder's youngest-ever debutant when he was handed a starting berth away to Augsburg on Matchday 20 of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 1.99m striker hit 20 senior appearances for the club before spending the 2022/23 campaign on loan at third-tier Elversberg, where he scored 10 goals in 25 starts to secure the 3. Liga's Player of the Season award. He went on to establish himself in Bremen's first team in 2023/24, making 30 top-flight appearances in what would prove to be his final season at the Weserstadion.

A switch to Stuttgart beckoned, and Woltemade took to his new side with gusto. Scoring in all five of the DFB Cup games he was fit to start en route to winning the final, he also weighed in with 12 goals over the 2024/25 Bundesliga season before a summer move to Newcastle.

Having received his first full international call-up by Julian Nagelsmann for the 2025 UEFA Nations League finals, Woltemade scored six goals to finish top scorer at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship as Germany fell just short against England in the final.

The frontman continues to go from strength to strength at international level, netting his first senior goal in a 1-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory over Northern Ireland in October.

Plays a bit like: Saša Kalajdžić

Nicknamed 'Woltemessi' by teammates as a result of his nimble footwork and perhaps unexpected dribbling ability, Woltemade's style of play more closely represents that of former Stuttgart favourite Kalajdžić.

The pair are similar in terms of height (Kalajdžić stands at 6'7"), while Woltemade's superb close control, athleticism and ability to spot an opening in defensive rearguards is not all that dissimilar to the Austrian, who registered 24 goals and 12 assists at VfB.

Did you know?

Woltemade's first three Bundesliga goals for Stuttgart all came as a substitute for Sebastian Hoeneß's side, while the striker's brace against Union Berlin on Matchday 13 of the 2024/25 campaign came with his first two shots on goal in the game.

What they're saying

"Playing in the 2026 World Cup is a goal of mine. I'm working on it. It will be difficult, no question, but I am giving my all." - Woltemade in March 2025, two months before receiving his first full Germay call-up

"Nick is a striker who also likes to drop back. He's showing more and more the qualities of a centre forward as time goes on." - Hoeneß praises Woltemade

"Nick just has to keep at it; he’ll score for us, too. It might take five, six, or seven matches. That’s not so bad. At some point he’ll score - and then he’ll score a few more times." - Nagelsmann on Woltemade before the striker broke his senior international duck against Northern Ireland
