Paderborn dropped to the bottom of the Bundesliga despite coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Union Berlin on Saturday.
Paderborn 1–1 Union Berlin
Goals: 0-1 Ingvartsen (7’), 1-1 Pröger (33’)
Union were facing a fellow promoted side for the second week running, and they started on the front foot following their 2-0 home win over Cologne. Sebastian Andersson got both goals against the Billy Goats, but it was another attacker, Marcus Ingvartsen, who gave the visitors an early lead here. Left-wing back Christopher Lenz started the attack with a driving run and clever one-two, before a Christian Gentner pass was diverted into the path of Ingvartsen and the Danish U21 international swept the ball into the top corner with a brilliant first-time effort from the edge of the area. Union almost doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Marius Bülter volleyed goalwards on the turn from a corner, but Jamilu Collins was well placed to clear off the line. Paderborn then grew into the game, and took their chance when it came past the half hour. Christopher Antwi-Adjei’s cross was cleverly flicked on by Klaus Gjasula, and Kai Pröger crept round the back to squeeze the ball past Union keeper Rafal Gikiewicz from the close range.
In-form Paderborn striker Streli Mamba had a shot on target early in the second half but Union continued to look the more threatening side. Ingavartsen failed to finish after meeting a Christopher Trimmel cross ahead of the better placed Bülter, then at the other end Ben Zolinski hooked wide from inside the area. With conditions deteriorating, both sides struggled to create too much in the second half, but Union almost earned three points when stretching centre-back Florian Hübner struck the post from six yards out after the ball was nodded down to him by Michael Parensen with seven minutes left.
