Possible records and milestones in 2024/25
The 2024/25 Bundesliga season is just around the corner, providing players and clubs another 34 games in which they can make history. From unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen to the seemingly unrelenting Thomas Müller, find out which records and milestones could fall over the next year…

The 2023/24 campaign was pretty much perfect for Leverkusen as the newly crowned champions became the first club to go an entire Bundesliga season unbeaten. They also set a new European record for competitive games without defeat at 51, having lost just one of their 53 fixtures last term.
What’s left for Xabi Alonso’s men, then? Well, as well as aiming to defend their title, they could also try and chase down the record for longest unbeaten run in the Bundesliga. That currently stands at 53 games, set by Bayern Munich across the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons. Die Werkself are 19 matches short of that target coming into 2024/25. We’d be looking at getting to late January if they’re to reach that record.

Bayern’s run of 11 straight titles prior to last season was obviously a record as well. Their counter restarts at zero now as they hit the internal reset button with the appointment of Vincent Kompany as coach and target a 34th championship and 33rd of the Bundesliga era.
Thomas Müller has been in the team for 12 of those past triumphs, making him the most decorated player in Bundesliga (and also German football in general) history. The 34-year-old doesn’t play as much as he once did but he’s still going strong in this Bayern team. He’s currently on 473 Bundesliga appearances, which ties him with Sepp Maier as the club’s record holder and takes him within 27 of joining the 500 club in the Bundesliga. The self-styled Raumdeuter is also on 707 competitive outings for his boyhood club, just two behind Maier’s all-time record of 709. Müller could go level and even beyond the legendary goalkeeper in the first weeks of the season.
Another legendary goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, became the 12th member of the Bundesliga’s 500 club late last season and now sits on 501 games. The 38-year-old is still 101 behind Karl-Heinz ‘Charly’ Körbel’s record of 602 (all for Eintracht Frankfurt) but hot on the heels of Müller in the race for most Bundesliga wins. Müller currently has 339, with Neuer one behind. Expect those numbers to climb further during the season.

Six new coaches
Bayern join Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg, Union Berlin, Bochum and promoted St. Pauli going into the new season with a new coach compared to the end of 2023/24. They’ll all be hoping to get their reigns off to a good start.
The record for most wins to begin a coaching tenure is seven by Otto Rehhagel with Bayern in 1995/96. They all have some way to go to register the longest unbeaten start, which was set at 28 by Pep Guardiola – again with Bayern – in 2013/14.
Milestones for players
It’s not just Müller and Neuer who go into the new season with major milestones in sight. As many as 10 players could reach 300 appearances in the Bundesliga. Goalkeepers Kevin Trapp (299) and Lukáš Hrádecký (294) are likely to get there quite soon. Trapp’s Frankfurt teammate Mario Götze (293) can also expect to bring up his triple century before winter.
Patience and regular playing time are required for Dominik Kohr (278), Jonathan Tah (274), Niklas Süle (274), Kevin Volland (273), Christoph Kramer (271) and Leon Goretzka (270). Mainz’s Stefan Bell needs a perfect attendance record if he’s to get there this season, starting out on 266 games.
Gerardo Seoane and Ole Werner also have centuries in their sights on the touchline. Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Swiss boss has overseen 76 Bundesliga fixtures (42 for Leverkusen, 34 for Gladbach), while Werner has taken charge of two full seasons at this level with Werder Bremen, so 68 games. He’ll therefore reach 100 on Matchday 32.
There are also milestones on the horizons for several clubs:
- Another good campaign for champions Leverkusen could see them reach 700 Bundesliga wins (currently 677). Last year’s runners-up VfB Stuttgart have the 800 threshold in their sights (789).
- Bochum (385) could get to 400 if they improve on 2023/24’s form; Wolfsburg (348) to 350; and Hoffenheim (193) to 200.
- Bayern are two victories away from becoming the first club to 750 wins at home in the Bundesliga.
- Freiburg could reach 1,000 points in the top flight (currently 974).
- RB Leipzig and promoted Pauli have both played 272 fixtures in the Bundesliga and will reach 300 on Matchday 28. Union Berlin will bring up 200 at this level on Matchday 30.
- Pauli have another triple century in their sights as they begin their ninth season in the Bundesliga having scored 296 goals previously.
- Hoffenheim could go three times better and reach 900 Bundesliga goals (currently 877).
