Impressive Bayern beat PSG

Luis Díaz and Aleksander Pavlović celebrate Bayern Munich's opening goal.

Bayern Munich extended their winning streak to 16 across all competitions after Luis Díaz gave his side a two-goal lead before being sent off as Vincent Kompany's men enjoyed a statement 2-1 win against European champions Paris Saint-Germain on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern couldn’t have asked for a better start against the European champions when Díaz opened the scoring with four minutes on the clock as they looked to overcome their toughest task yet.

Luis Díaz celebrates giving Bayern a 1-0 lead.

After soaking up early pressure from PSG, the Colombian marked his return to the starting line-up with a composed finish past Lucas Chevalier after Michael Olise was denied. Rested against Bayer Leverkusen, Dayot Upamecano - who won the ball back in midfield - was one of six changes made by Vincent Kompany.

PSG thought they had equalised through former Borussia Dortmund attacker Ousmane Dembélé when he bundled Fabián Ruiz’s cross over the line, but VAR judged the Frenchman to have strayed offside.

Manuel Neuer was then called into action to deny Bradley Barcola before Serge Gnabry had a chance to double Bayern’s lead, but his low-driven shot bounced off of both posts.

Luis Díaz was sent off for a challenge on Achraf Hakimi.

Bayern were then rewarded for their high press less than a minute later as Díaz capitalised on Marquinhos dwelling on the ball, winning the ball from the Brazilian before hammering home to double Bayern’s lead.

Germany’s record champions continued to flood forward and thought they had a third when Josip Stanišić converted a pass from Harry Kane, but he was in an offside position. They were almost rewarded when Joshua Kimmich - who made his 100th Champions League appearance - dragged his effort just wide moments later.

Although in a comfortable lead, Bayern’s task was made much more difficult when Díaz was dismissed in stoppage time at the end of the first-half for a challenge on Achraf Hakimi, which saw the Colombian’s initial yellow card overturned into a red after the referee was called to the monitor.

João Neves brought PSG to within one.

A man down, it was a very different Bayern that started the second half, with this one happy to sit in a low block. In a five-minute spell, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Vitinha and Lee Kang-in all forced Neuer into making saves, but none really troubled the Bayern stopper.

PSG’s persistence was then rewarded when João Neves, who had been on the pitch for less than 10 minutes, converted Lee’s cross. That goal gave the hosts confidence, with Vitinha and Warren Zaïre-Emery forcing Neuer into two superb saves, which forced Kompany’s hand with the introduction of Minjae Kim and a switch to a back five.

It was one-way traffic in the closing stages with Neves coming close with a header as the hosts pushed for an equaliser, but Bayern showed resilience to overcome a PSG storm to pick up an impressive three points in Paris.

Kvaratskhelia whips in a dangerous cross

The Georgian cuts inside and sends in a cross/shot that almost deflects off Upamecano directly before Neuer, but luckily for the Bayern captain, the Frenchman doesn't get a touch, and the keeper can collect.

No way through

Bayern have got everyone behind the ball now and are looking for counters or opportunities to slow the game down. PSG have got to move the ball faster if they are going to create openings. The Bayern defensive line is coping at the moment.

Wonderful football

The Bayern attackers combine superbly as Gnabry, Olise and Kane all combine, before the latter backheels the ball into the path of Kimmich. He takes the ball in his stride and shoots, but he can't quite hit the far corner.

But it won't count. Kane pounces on another loose pass and finds Stanišić, who finishes, but he was in an offside position.

It could be 3-0!

Stanišić wins possession on the edge of the PSG box after Bayern lose it initially. He then feeds Kimmich, who looks to return the ball to Stanišić in the centre, but the full-back decides to dummy the ball for Gnabry instead of shooting himself, and the chance goes to waste.

Dembélé off injured

After bundling that ball home, Dembélé waved to the bench to say that he couldn't continue. He was a doubt coming into this game, and it seems tonight's match has come too soon for him. Kang-in Lee replaces him, meaning that Kvaratskhelia will move into a more central role.
