Raphael Guerreiro has completed a move to champions Bayern Munich.

Raphael Guerreiro has joined Bayern Munich as a free agent, after deciding not to renew his contract with Borussia Dortmund when it expires on 30 June.

Guerreiro has spent the last seven seasons in the Bundesliga, having moved to Dortmund from French club Lorient in July 2016.

The 29-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with new employers Bayern, who beat Dortmund to the title on goal difference in a dramatic conclusion to the 2022/23 campaign.

“When the call came from FC Bayern, I made my decision fast," Guerreiro said, in quotes appearing on Bayern's official website. "It’s an honour for me to be able to play for this great club, and I also regard (coach) Thomas Tuchel highly from our time together at Dortmund."

"I’m a player who always wants the ball – it’s about controlling the game and I want to create chances," the Portugal international continued. "I’ll give my all so that we win as many titles as possible. That’s the philosophy of FC Bayern.”

Guerreiro, who can play at left-back and in midfield, made 224 competitive appearances for Dortmund, producing 40 goals and 50 assists. The 63-time Portugal international won two DFB Cups and the German Supercup in his time at the Signal Iduna Park, and ended the 2022/23 season with a league-leading 12 assists.

“Raphaël Guerreiro has been among the best and most consistent players in the Bundesliga for years," Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said of the UEFA 2016 Euros winner, who played under current Bayern head coach Tuchel at Dortmund in 2016/17.

"He’s versatile and internationally experienced, and fits perfectly into our team as both a character and player," Dreesen added. "We’re very happy that we’ve been able to sign him and that he’ll be wearing the FC Bayern shirt in the future."
