Bundesliga
Prolific wing-back Angelino inspired RB Leipzig to a 2-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld which keeps them hot on the heels of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga, although they were made to work hard for all three points at the Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig 2-1 Bielefeld
Goals: 1-0 Angelino (29'), 2-0 Nkunku (47'), 2-1 Klos (75')
Bielefeld had the first opportunity of the game with Ritsu Doan's shot, which was pushed instinctively behind by Peter Gulacsi, despite the Hungary goalkeeper being unsighted behind Willi Orban. Angelino replied with a wayward effort before flashing another shot much closer to Stefan Ortega's goal. He was just finding his range before latching onto Lazar Samardzic's through ball, skipping past Ortega and sliding the ball into the unguarded goal. The Spanish wing-back could have struck again before the break, but for a fine one-handed save from Ortega, and it was Doan again providing the danger at the other end, almost netting an equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
Bielefeld were certainly still in the game, until a mistake by Amos Pieper allowed Dani Olmo to steal the ball in a dangerous position and pull back for substitute Christopher Nkunku to score with his first touch of the game. Bielefeld responded well and Doan once again went close, Orban getting in a crucial block at the near post, before Fabian Klos tickled the side-netting. The guests' hopes of getting back into the game appeared to be over when Leipzig were awarded a penalty, but Ortega made a fine save to deny Alexander Sorloth and keep their hopes alive, with Klos subsequently stoking their fading embers of hope with his first Bundesliga goal on 75 minutes. Leipzig had to draw on all their powers of resilience to hold on for the three points, with Klos and Joakim Nilsson both going agonisingly close for the guests, but hold on they did to keep pace at the top of the Bundesliga, sticking within two points of league leaders Bayern Munich.
