Bundesliga
Leipzig fans thought their team was on course for a third successive win against Bayern Munich after Loïs Openda and Castello Lukeba goals but champions Bayern rallied through a Harry Kane penalty a Leroy Sané strike to spoil the home party.
RB Leipzig 2-2 Bayern Munich
Goals: 1-0 Openda 20' (assist: Schlager), 2-0 Lukeba 26' (assist: Openda), 2-1 Kane (pen.) 57', 2-2 Sané 70' (assist: Musiala)
Having seen Bayer Leverkusen take top spot in the Bundesliga standings prior to this encounter, previous leaders Bayern began their Matchday 6 meeting with intent. A quick free kick led to Kane playing Jamal Musiala in on goal but the 20-year-old was foiled by a solid Janis Blaswich stop. Leipzig were without some key personnel here, captain Willi Orban and creator-in-chief Dani Olmo included. Yet the hosts boasted an impressive record against their opponents of late and they used the know-how gained from two recent wins against Bayern to their advantage. Not long after Emil Forsberg drove a shot at an empty goal wide following some slack play between Konrad Laimer and Sven Ulreich, Die Roten Bullen hit the front. Xaver Schlager's defence-splitting pass for Openda saw the Belgian hold off Minjae Kim before sending a shot off the foot of the Bayern defender and past Ulreich. Just six minutes later and it was 2-0. Stretching for, and missing, a Leipzig corner, Ulreich cut a despairing figure as Openda headed into the path of Lukeba to drive home his first Bundesliga goal.
Thomas Tuchel introduced Raphaël Guerreiro - making his first Bundesliga appearance for Bayern - and Mathys Tel at the break as the tactician looked to change his side's fortunes. The visitors certainly got a break when a Sané free-kick hit Benjamin Henrichs's elbow inside the Leipzig area, allowing Kane to step up and drill a penalty past Blaswich. When Marco Rose's men lost Kevin Kampl to injury thereafter, the game's momentum noticeably switched. Leading a Bayern breakaway, Musiala expertly played in Sané who - seeking his fifth Bundesliga goal of the season - found the corner of the net with the utmost of confidence. The game pulsating towards a frantic conclusion, Fábio Carvalho and Benjamin Šeško just failed to produce a winner while the latter was then expertly foiled by Ulreich as both sides ultimately settled for a point.
