Antonio Nusa provided a hat-trick of assists while Loïs Openda and Benjamin Šeško scored sublime goals as RB Leipzig beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in the DFB Cup round of 16 on Wednesday evening.
RB Leipzig 3-0 Eintracht Frankfurt
Goals: 1-0 Šeško (31'), 2-0 Openda (50'), 3-0 Openda (58')
Having failed to win any of their six games in November, drawing three and losing three, Leipzig got back on track in their first outing in December. Marco Rose fielded Openda and Šeško up top in a statement of attacking intent and, after an evenly balanced opening period, it paid off shortly after the half-hour mark. Winning possession deep in the Frankfurt half, Nusa showed incredible balance and agility to skip in from the left past two defenders and feed the ball to Šeško, who, seemingly determined not to be outshone, showed incredible footwork of his own to outwit his marker and put the home side ahead with a composed finish. Frankfurt, second in the Bundesliga table and with the in-form Omar Marmoush up top, were uncharacteristally quiet in attack and failed to have a shot on target in the first half.
Leipzig extended their lead early in the second period and again it came as a result of their high press. Nusa gathered the ball on the left, jinked into the box and teed the ball up for Openda to finish from close range. The game was effectively over as a contest just eight minutes later when the lively Nusa again picked up possession and flicked it inside to Openda. The Belgium international still had a lot of work to do, but arrowed an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards out. Frankfurt continued to battle as the final whistle approached but never looked like scoring against a dogged home side, who deservedly booked their spot in the last eight.

As it happened!
That is all Frankfurt can hope for now as full-time approaches.
That sums up Frankfurt's night - Ekitiké tests Vandervoort for the first time, and it is an easy take for the replacement goalkeeper.
Openda is looking to complete his hat-trick. Not on this occasion, but he still has time to do so!
A rare chance for the visitors, but Ekitiké can't find the target.
A chance for Leipzig has Henrichs heads towards goal. It is an easy take for Trapp though.
Leipzig are clearly in the ascendancy now and are able to sit back and let Frankfurt do the work.
A third for Leipzig, and it is another memorable strike. Openda picks the ball up 30 yards from goal, and even from there, Trapp can do absolutely nothing as the strike hammers into the top corner.
The home side give themselves an extra cushion. Openda is the goalscorer, tapping into an empty net after a move down the left.
We are up and running once more here!
All in a day's work for the striker!
Leipzig have been the better team in this encounter, and they have the lead. What do Frankfurt have in response?
Leipzig break the deadlock, and in fabulous fashion! Following some brilliant work from Nusa, Šeško beats a Frankfurt defender before some quick feet takes him past Trapp. From there, he only has to tap into an empty net. Fantastic.
The angle works against Openda, and can only put his attempt behind.
Frankfurt are moving up the field more frequently, but they are still unable to make any real inroads.
Openda has the ball in the back of the net, but the effort is ruled out for offside.
The first real opening of the match, as the Frankfurt captain leaps to tip Orbán's header behind.
The visitors have not managed to get themselves into the game just yet, with Marmoush and Ekitiké passengers thus far.
Not far away from the Slovenian, who drags an attempt not far past the post from outside the area.
Seiwald curls a free-kick into the area and, while it evades everyone in the box, it almost finds the top corner. In the end, though, it goes just over the bar.
The hosts are eager to stop their recent poor run and are aiming to push Frankfurt back into their own third at every opportunity.
We are underway here in Leipzig!
Not long now before kick-off!

Leipzig have stumbled in recent weeks, failing to win any of their past six matches in all competitions - their previous victory came in October against St. Pauli. They will be eager to end that run here.
See more on Frankfurt's next unstoppable strikeforce, who have been smashing club records at every turn this season.
Holders Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and third-tier side Bielefeld all booked their places in the quarter-finals yesterday. While there may be no easy fixtures, most teams will likely secretly be hoping they get drawn against the latter in the next round.
Enjoy all 13 goals and seven assists the Egyptian forward has contributed to Frankfurt's cause so far in the Bundesliga in 2024/25...
Six wins from six across all competitions, scoring 17 goals, saw Frankfurt continue to lead the pack pursuing Bayern. The red-hot Omar Marmoush scored in five of them, taking his season tally up to 15. And on the one occasion where the Egyptian sensation failed to net, up stepped Germany World Cup hero Mario Götze on his 100th appearance for the Eagles, who continue to fly high this winter.
