Ole Werner will lead RB Leipzig into the new campaign after the 37-year-old tactician agreed terms on a two-year-deal at the Red Bull Arena.
Leipzig have been in search of a new coach following the dismissal of Marco Rose at the end of March. Zsolt Lőw, who had previously been head of soccer development at Red Bull, took over first-team duties until the end of last season but couldn't steer the team back into European, ultimately finishing in seventh place.
"Ole is a young, ambitious and extremely ambitious head coach who will take the next step in his development with us," said Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer.
"We have been following his progress closely for some time now and are delighted that he has decided to join RB Leipzig.
"Ole stands for a clear playing philosophy, which he successfully implemented during his time at Kiel and Bremen: structured possession football, quick switching after winning the ball, very good pressing, tactical flexibility as well as a courageous, committed and combative approach."
Leipzig are Werner's third club as head coach. After ending his playing career at the age of 22, he was involved with Holstein Kiel's youth and second teams before eventually taking over the senior side in 2019 on a permanent basis.
He kept Kiel in Bundesliga 2 in 2019/20 before taking the Storks to within touching distance of the Bundesliga the following term, ultimately losing to Cologne in the relegation play-off.
In November 2021, he was appointed by Bremen with the Werderaner struggling at that time to adapt to the second division. Werner, though, led the Green-Whites to an immediate promotion, before masterminding 13th, ninth and eighth place finishes in successive seasons in the top tier.
"I'm delighted to be the head coach of RB Leipzig. In the very detailed discussions, it was immediately clear that both sides have the same ideas about the way we play and work. That made it easy for me to decide in favour of this joint path," said Werner of his appointment.
He continued: "Leipzig stands for a bold and attacking style of play with recognisable values, for professional and ambitious thinking. The club has big goals and aspirations. These are precisely the parameters that convinced me and to which I would like to make my contribution."
Werner's first competitive fixture in charge will be against Sandhausen in the first round of the DFB Cup - a competition RB have won twice in recent years - on 15-18 August.
They will discover their opening opponent in the Bundesliga later this week.
