Robert Lewandowski turned 32 at the end of his 55-goal season with Bayern Munich, but believes he can continue to serve up such prolific numbers for years to come.

Lewandowski's 10th campaign on German soil was his best yet as he became the first player in history to win a continental treble whilst top scoring in each competition: 34 goals in the Bundesliga, six in the DFB Cup and 15 in the UEFA Champions League.

Despite being five years past a professional footballer's perceived peak, the Poland international is confident he can maintain his eye-watering levels deep into his 30s.

"I don't feel like I'm 32," Lewandowski told kicker after being named Germany's Footballer of the Year for the first time.

"I feel better than I did at 26, not just physically, but also in terms of my footballing and technical ability. I've been working very hard over the past few years to reach my optimum level.

"I'm very happy that I have managed to do this, and can play football at the highest level for even longer."

Having never missed more than four league matches of a 34-game Bundesliga season since moving to Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan in summer 2010, it is fair to assume Lewandowski will remain Bayern's chief source of goals for the foreseeable future.

He is contracted to the club until 30 June 2023, but admits he can envisage ending his career with the record champions further down the line.

"My current contract is not my last," Lewandowski affirmed.

"I want to play even longer. I want to achieve even more. My teammates in Munich feel the same way.

"Ending my career at FC Bayern is an option, of course. But I still have so many years left in me, I'm not thinking about the end of my career. I'm doing everything I can to stay at this level for a few more years at least."

Lewandowski has scored 30 or more goals in three of his last five seasons in the Bundesliga.

Lewandowski, who left Dortmund for Bayern on a free transfer in July 2014, is the Bundesliga's all-time leading non-German scorer with 236 goals in 321 games.

Last season, he got his hands on his third successive Torjägerkanone - his fifth overall - and has only been outscored in the Bayern pantheon by Gerd Müller (246 to 515 goals).

LewanGOALski could become the first Bundesliga-based player to win the FIFA Best Player award. The 2020 Ballon d'Or was cancelled due to the interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
