"Lewandowski the world’s best forward" - Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann (l.) is in no doubt where Robert Lewandowski (r.) stands in the global ranking.

Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann says Robert Lewandowski is "still the best forward in the world" after extending his scoring run to 19 consecutive competitive games on Saturday.

Following his double in the triumph over Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday, Lewandowski took his tally to nine in six outings this season when he prodded in the fifth of Bayern's seven goals without reply at home to Bochum.

In doing so the 33-year-old scored in his 15th successive league appearance, set a new Bundesliga record for hitting the target in a 13th straight home game, and also became the only active player to register a goal against all of the current 18 top-flight clubs.

All of which has left Nagelsmann in no doubt as to where the striker ranks among the game's elite. "He wants to score in every game," the Bayern tactician told bundesliga.com after the final whistle.

"He's so hungry to score goals and he’s so hungry to assist goals for his teammates as well. Today he had three or four great passes in the final third to create chances for his teammates, so in the end he's still the best forward in the world and he'll score a lot of goals for us this season as well."

There is no arguing with that. Averaging just 56 minutes for a goal in the Bundesliga this term, Lewandowski is continuing to show the form that fired him to a record-setting 41 last season, and he recently stated that he feels he is "better than ever".

His next opportunity to add to that tally arrives as soon as Friday, when the defending champions travel to promoted side Greuther Fürth, who are currently bottom of the standings with a league-worst 13 goals conceded in five games.
