Augsburg's Fellhauer on the mend

The incident occurred in the sixth minute of stoppage time and overshadowed a previously highly-entertaining encounter between hosts Augsburg and Bayern. 

Bayern's Boey arrived late into a challenge and ended up colliding with Fellhauer's temple. The 27-year-old Augsburg player fell to the ground and briefly lost consciousness.

After a break of several minutes for treatment, the midfielder was stretchered off the pitch before being immediately taken to the hospital.

Shortly after the final whistle, home goalkeeper Finn Dahmen gave the first cautious all-clear to broadcaster Sky, saying that Fellhauer was, "doing well, considering the circumstances." The custodian added, "Thank God; it seems to have ended ok."

New Augsburg coach Sandro Wagner expressed similar sentiments while adding that, according to an initial diagnosis, Fellhauer had suffered "a severe concussion."

The Augsburg coach, however, did not look on the incident as what he described, "a normal football injury" and was critical of Boey, despite acknowledging the player had no bad intent in terms of the challenge.

"It would be nice if he [Boey] said sorry directly and not only when he saw that the young man could no longer move," Wagner said. "And [it would also have been nice] if one or two people on the bench (...) didn't immediately jump up and complain that it wasn't a foul: you just don't do that," the tactician added.

Fellhauer's family were present at the stadium and briefly joined him in the locker room afterwards. "That was moving," Wagner said.

The player was taken to an Augsburg hospital for further examination.
