Hahn and Demirovic help Augsburg stun Schalke

Having fought back from two of goals down to draw level against Augsburg, Schalke looked on course for glory against the visitors' 10 men, until Andre Hahn put paid to home hopes.

Schalke 2-3 Augsburg
Goals: 0-1
Demirovic (9'), 0-2 Demirovic 21' (assist: Berisha), 1-2 Terodde 33' (assist: Drexler), 2-2 Krauß 63' (assist: Drexler), 2-3 Hahn (assist: Gumny)
Red card: Berisha 70'

Augsburg took to the Veltins-Arena brimming with confidence after successive wins, one of which came against their Bavarian neighbours Bayern Munich on Matchday 7. The visitors' super start here was, in part, aided by Schalke's inability to maintain possession. The ball given up cheaply by the hosts, it worked its way to Hahn - so assured down the right. His dangerous centre into the the home box might have reached Ermedin Demirovic without a glancing touch from Henning Matriciani, but with it, the ball landed so perfectly at the feet of the Augsburg No.9 that he was able to take a couple of touches to tee up a terrific shot that flashed past the despairing hand of Alexander Schwolow and into the far corner. The Royal Blues sought to shake that one off and build again, however, home uncertainty was once more pounced upon by the visitors. Mergim Berisha escaped down the left and freed Demirovic whose low finish for 2-0 appeared nonchalant enough as to have been applied in a training-ground game. Desperate times for Schalke called for a reinvigorating measure and they were back in the game when Simon Terodde combined with Dominick Drexler before the former dinked in a finish that raised a home roar.

Florian Niederlechner and Tom Krauß exchanged chances at the start of the second half, keeping both goalkeepers on their toes but it was arguably Augsburg who should have pressed on to increase their advantage thereafter. In an exchange of roles that produced their second goal, Demirovic spun and lifted an enticing pass in for Berisha who tried, but ultimately failed, to connect with the goal at his mercy. Berisha then swiped a low drive goalwards which, owing to a deflection, made Schwolow's reflex stop all the more impressive. Spurred on by their ability to stay in the fight, Die Knappen pulled level after Drexler's run and through pass led to a Krauß leveller that took a slight deflection on the way in. The celebrations inside the stadium went up yet another notch soon afterwards when Berisha was ordered off for a second yellow card following a flailing-armed foul on Maya Yoshida. With everything seemingly set up for a barnstorming Schalke finish, Augsburg amazingly nipped in to nick it, Hahn's bullet header from Robert Gumny's cross pushing Enrico Maaßen's men over the line and on to three Bundesliga wins in a row.
