Erling Haaland hits brace in demolition Revierderby

The warning signs were there for Schalke as early as the seventh minute when Haaland played in Sancho, who shot straight at Ralf Fährmann. The Schalke goalkeeper was called on to keep Haaland and Marco Reus at bay, before making way for Michael Langer through injury. Mahmoud Dahoud was first to test the veteran stopper with a fierce strike from 18 yards, but there was no stopping Dortmund's next attempt. Mateu Morey dispossessed Benjamin Stambouli in the Schalke half and fed Sancho, who drove home from with aplomb from 16 yards. The England international turned provider less than three minutes later, clipping a left-wing cross into the box for Haaland, who produced a sensational scissor-kick to bring up his 16th goal in 17 league matches this season.

Schalke re-emerged for the second half with fire in the bellies as Suat Serdar forced a fingertip save from Marwin Hitz. The Dortmund custodian was out to smother at the feet of American teenager Matthew Hoppe soon after, but any hopes the Royal Blues had of turning the tide were all but extinguished on the hour. The rampaging Raphael Guerreiro exchanged passes with Reus in the Schalke area, before tucking the ball past Langer with BVB's first effort on goal since the restart. It got worse with 11 minutes remaining when Sancho surged forward and found substitute Jude Bellingham. The English teenager's low cross was measured to perfection, with Haaland applying the finishing touch for his second competitive brace in the space of three days following his star turn in the UEFA Champions League last 16 against Sevilla.

• Dortmund snapped a run of three straight away defeats in the Bundesliga.
• Haaland has scored 30 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances, including six braces this season alone. He has scored more league goals this term than the entire Schalke team (17 compared to 15).
• Sancho - who turns 21 in March - is the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score 35 goals.

• Guerreiro has scored four times in the derby - more than any current Dortmund player.
