Exclusive Guirassy interview!

Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy is hoping to knock Harry Kane off his top scorer's perch this season.
Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy is hoping to knock Harry Kane off his top scorer's perch this season.

Serhou Guirassy says he is aiming to take Harry Kane's top goalscorer crown this season as he eyes silverware with Borussia Dortmund in 2025/26.

With the new campaign about to start, Guirassy, who finished joint second behind Kane in the overall chart last term with 21 league goals, sat down for a wide-ranging exclusive interview to discuss goals, Jobe Belleingham and what he's learned from Robert Lewandowki.

bundesliga.com: You scored 38 times in 50 competitive matches last season. Not a bad return, is it?

Guirassy: “It’s good. It could have been more, for sure. But those are good numbers. I just need to keep going and become more clinical in front of goal.”

bundesliga.com: Did you think numbers like that were realistic?

Guirassy: “Of course. I'm someone who wants to win matches and who wants to score all the time. It is easier to score goals when you play with good players and we have good balance.

"At the start, it was a bit harder, both for me and for the team. But we improved and ended up qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, which was the most important thing. And this season we start from scratch again. It’s up to us to ensure we make a strong start and have a great season.”

bundesliga.com: What were your first impressions of Jobe Bellingham?

Guirassy: “Great first impressions. We get on very well and have been joking around a lot. He's a great player. He's a big character too, which I like a lot. He doesn’t need people to tell him what to do, he's very vocal. Those are the types of players I admire - the big characters.”

bundesliga.com: How motivated are you to finish as top goalscorer this season?

Guirassy: “Of course, that is an objective of mine. I've finished second now for two seasons in a row. It's an objective of mine but it’s not something I'm totally fixated on.

"For me, the aim is to win titles and to help the team as much as I can. If I can help the team win titles, but I don’t finish as top goalscorer, that wouldn’t bother me at all. The most important thing is winning titles and performing well as a team.”

bundesliga.com: Kane has been top scorer in the Bundesliga for the past two seasons. What are the differences and similarities between you as players?

Guirassy: “The similarities? We both like scoring goals. Harry Kane is a world-class striker with a lot of experience. I watch a lot of football matches and am always learning.

"And that’s not a bad thing. You can always learn from other players. Even Robert Lewandowski for example, who is 36 or 37 years old now. You can always learn from him by watching his matches. That’s how I am.”

bundesliga.com: What does it feel like to score in front of the Yellow Wall?

Guirassy: “You have to play for Dortmund to know what that feels like. You have to play for Dortmund, at Dortmund. It’s always very emotional to score in front of the Yellow Wall as a Dortmund player.

"Honestly, it’s one of the best stadiums in the world, with the best atmosphere. So scoring goals here gives you a real adrenaline kick."
