EURO 2024
RB Leipzig's Dani Olmo played his part as Spain edged England 2-1 in the UEFA Euro 2024 final.
Spain 2-1 England
Goals: 1-0 Willams 47' (assist: Yamal), 1-1 Palmer 73' (assist: Bellingham), 2-1 Oyarzabal 86' (assist: Cucerella)
There was precious little between the two sides in a keenly contested first half in Berlin. John Stones blocked a near-post effort from Spain's Nico Williams, while Phil Foden drew a relatively comfortable save from Unai Simón with England's best opening. Spain lost Rodri to injury at the break, but came out swinging at the start of the second period. Lamine Yamal was allowed to run inside and pick a pass for Nico Williams, who sunk a cool first-time finish into the bottom corner for 1-0. Olmo almost doubled up as Spain turned the screw, the Leipzig man firing wide with a shot on the turn from inside the England area. Stones then blocked from Álvaro Morata, before Williams drove narrowly wide. Gareth Southgate rang the changes, with Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane among those hooked as the Three Lions chased the game. One of the new faces, Cole Palmer stroked home a fine equaliser, only for Spain to retake the lead through substitute Mikel Oyarzabal with just four minutes of normal time remaining. Olmo cleared off the line from Stones as Spain won a record fourth Euros.
