Borussia Dortmund are still without Erling Haaland against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday as they go in search of the win needed to book their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 (kick-off: 9pm CET).
Dortmund's evening didn't get off to a good start when Guerreiro pulled up in the warm-up, and it didn't get much better after that. The home side had a couple of early efforts from distance through Reus and Malen, and they looked to be in control with half an hour played. That was when the visitors failed to deal with a hopeful ball forward, though, and Goncalves nipped in to get his first goal of the night. His second came on 39 minutes, when he swept the ball high into the net from the edge of the area. Dortmund came out firing in the second half and had a goal disallowed, but they lost Can to a red card and then saw Porro make it three after Kobel had saved a Goncalves penalty. Malen's injury-time reply was of little consolation. Sporting are now three points ahead of Dortmund in the group and will finish ahead of Marco Rose's team no matter what happens in the final group matches next month because of their better head-to-head record in games involving the two teams.
After eight minutes of injury-time, the referee finally calls a halt. Dortmund drop to third in Group C, and can no longer qualify for the Champions League knockout stage.
Brandt fires over a left-wing cross, it's flicked on by Reus, and Malen finds the net from close range. Too little, too late, it looks like...
That third goal has killed off Dortmund's chances of coming back. They've had more of the ball and more attempts at goal, but they haven't been able to work Adan enough tonight.
Kobel dives to his left to save the penalty from Goncalves, but Porro follows up to head home the rebound.
Zagadou is penalised for his challenge on Paulinho after a VAR review.
Can reacts to a late challenge from Pedro Porro and is sent off by the Spanish referee.
Right after coming on Tigges is in down the left, but Coates gets across in time to block his shot behind. Sporting keeper Adan is fouled from the corner.
It's all Dortmund at the moment. They're about to make a triple change...
Bellingham looks to bend a long-range shot from outside the area into the far corner, but Adan holds on at the second attempt.
They need to of course, but Dortmund are looking a lot more threatening in this half. Julian Brandt leads another break and finds Jude Bellingham, but a Sporting defender gets up close to the English teenager to take the sting out of his effort before it bounces through to Adan.
Dortmund force an own goal from Zouhair Feddal but it's ruled out. The Sporting defender bundled the ball into his own net from a low ball across the area, but Thomas Meunier was in an offside position when he delivered it.
This half has a much more frantic feel to it. Both teams are breaking with pace and looking dangerous.
Sporting catch Dortmund on the counter and Sarabia is played through on the right of the area. Kobel narrows the angle and stays up for as long as possible to make a very big save for his team.
Can makes a good early contribution, driving down the left and firing over a cross which Coates clears behind.
Dortmund need a big second-half performance to keep their hopes of making the round of 16 alive... They have made one change at the interval.
Two clinical finishes from Pedro Goncalves - Sporting's only shots on target in the first half - have the visitors in a very difficult situation. Dortmund looked the more comfortable side in the opening half hour, but a defensive error allowed Goncalves to pounce for the opener. The 23-year-old - who also got a double in Sporting's last Champions League game against Besiktas - then thumped home a brilliant second. As it stands, Sporting would move on to nine points. A two-goal win for the Portuguese champions would mean that Dortmund could not progress to the knockout stage by virtue of Sporting's better head-to-head record in the games between them.
Malen is played in and rounds Adan, but Inacio does brilliantly to clear his effort off the line.
Sporting attack down the left and the ball breaks to Pedro Goncalves on the D. He sweeps the ball past Kobel for 2-0.
Malen smacks a shot off the base of the post from a tight angle but the referee had blown for an infringment.
The ball is played to Pablo Sarabia inside the area and his effort was heading for the far corner - only for Axel Witsel to get his body in the way.
There had been nothing happening in this game, with Dortmund playing the ball around well enough but Sporting coping comfortably while sitting back. Then Schulz failed to deal with a long ball forward from Coates, Pongracic couldn't react in time, and it ran kindly for Goncalves to stab the opening goal past Kobel.
Dortmund have had more of the ball so far. Sporting seem a little nervous and are sitting deep.
Donyell Malen, who scored his first Bundesliga goal at the weekend, isn't far off getting his second of the campaign against Sporting. The hero of the Matchday 2 meeting of these sides gets Dortmund's second shot on target, but Adan moves low to his right to cling on to his strike from range.
A Sporting corner is taken short and clipped into the area, but Gregor Kobel gathers the ball comfortably in the Dortmund goal.
Raphael Guerreiro has felt something in the warm-up and has to be replaced in the starting XI by Nico Schulz.
Playing all in yellow, Dortmund have settled into the game.
Dortmund skipper Marco Reus gets a shot on target from outside the area, but it's an easy take for Sporting keeper Antonio Adan.
Sporting force a corner and are enjoying the bulk of possession early on.
The game is underway in front of 50,000 fans in Lisbon.
Haaland has missed six matches with a troublesome hip flexor injury, but Dortmund head coach Marco Rose hasn't given up hope of having his star striker back on the field before the year is out. The 21-year-old was also absent for the reverse fixture, decided in BVB's favour by a solitary Donyell Malen goal. Malen added a first Bundesliga strike to his tally on Saturday, with captain Marco Reus sealing a 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart that took Die Schwarzgelben to within a point of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich after 12 matches. They're also second in Champions League Group C following back-to-back defeats to Ajax, but will join the Dutch outfit in the knockout rounds if they take maximum points in their penultimate fixture in the section. Portugal international Raphael Guerreiro starts after returning from injury at the weekend, while Marin Pongragic deputises for suspended centre-back Mats Hummels. Real Madrid loanee Reinier Jesus replaces Thorgan Hazard in attack.
Sporting barely laid a glove on Dortmund on Matchday 2, but are still in with a shout of progressing thanks to a pair of comfortable wins over already eliminated Besiktas. Although the Primeira Liga's second-placed team have recorded nine straight victories in all competitions since their trip to the Signal Iduna Park, the history books suggest that run could be about to come screeching to a halt. Sporting have won only two of their previous 13 home meetings with German teams, and will have to settle for a place in the UEFA Europa League if they suffer a seventh European competition defeat to Bundesliga opposition. Teenaged forward Tiago Tomas is fit enough for the bench, but Ruben Vinagre and Jovane Cabral are both missing for the defending Portuguese champions.
