During UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, the hosts benefited in their game against Denmark from the use of a microchip in the ball that senses touches. This ‘ball EKG’ was further trialled the season-opening fixture at the BayArena.
- Chip in the ball: This registers the smallest touch of the ball thanks to a chip weighing three grams inside the special-edition Derbystar Supercup ball.
- New cameras: Fans had two new angles for viewing the action, but not covering the pitch. Instead, there was a camera on each of the team buses and outside each changing room.
