Kostic’s tireless efforts for Frankfurt this season have allowed coach Adi Hütter to leave the left flank to the 27-year-old alone. Able to play left or right, in defence, midfield and attack, Hakimi is a jack of all trades and master of some. No "defender" has come close to his 10 assists this season. Already a back-to-back African Youth Player of the Year, that the Madrid-born Moroccan is only at the beginning of his career is a sobering thought.

Club: Augsburg
Position: ST
Rating: 89
2019/20 so far: 25 games – 11 goals – 6 assists
Niederlechner has arguably been the biggest surprise package in the Bundesliga this season. The 29-year-old last hit double figures in 2016/17, but has enjoyed a new lease of life at Augsburg. Timo Werner - with 21 goals - is the only German to have scored more goals. Are you watching, Jogi?
