Bundesliga
After a 2024/25 season that had goals and drama in equal measure, bundesliga.com runs through the top five teams according to Expected Goals as both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen make the cut.
1. Bayern Munich, 88.22 xG
Champions once more, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern were dominant in every sense of the word on their way to lifting the Meisterschale. By far the strongest team offensively in the Bundesliga, the only game Bayern did not score in was in the 0-0 draw against Leverkusen. Meanwhile, all other teams in the Bundesliga failed to score on at least four occasions. The Bavarians finished the season just one short of a century of league goals.

2. Eintracht Frankfurt, 71.36 xG
Perhaps not a team that many would have expected to be second in this list, Dino Toppmöller’s Die Adler impressed many with their youthful exuberance and devastating threat on the counter-attack. All of that attacking prowess in the league paid dividends as they successfully qualified for the Champions League via a league position for the very first time. Two big names behind that success were the now departed Omar Marmoush and striker Hugo Ekitiké, both of whom notched 15 goals during the 2024/25 season.

3. VfB Stuttgart, 69.79 xG
Sebastian Hoeneß’s side were runners-up last season; however, they failed to follow up that success this campaign after the departures of key names, including Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton. Nevertheless, a mix of replacements and emerging talents helped fill the void as the trio of Deniz Undav, Ermedin Demirović and Nick Woltemade contributed majorly to the club’s tally of 64 goals. Despite this, the Swabians still underperformed their xG total by five goals.

4. Borussia Dortmund, 63.36 xG
Niko Kovač and Guirassy led Dortmund's incredible comeback in the second half of the season, which culminated in a top-four finish. Behind that rapid rise up the table was their attacking potency, which saw them outperform their xG of 63.36 and score a total of 71 goals during the 2024/25 season. Of all the players, Jamie Gittens was most clinical in front of goal, converting eight times from chances worth an xG total of just under four.

5. Bayer Leverkusen, 63.25
And finally, Leverkusen finished as the fifth-most prolific attack in the Bundesliga despite being second only to Bayern in terms of shots on goal with 499. Top-scorer Patrik Schick had a successful season with 21 goals to his name, but the team as a whole were not on the same level offensively as they were during their title-winning 23/24 season. This was in part due to the absence of Florian Wirtz, who missed several games during the business end of the season. Only league leaders Bayern were more efficient with their chances than Die Werkself, who scored almost nine more goals than they created.
