Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Müller says he is "very happy with Jamal Musiala" after the 17-year-old came off the bench to score in the defending champions' 3-3 draw at home to RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Musiala, who recently earned his first U21 cap for England, started as a substitute at the Allianz Arena, resting after impressing on his UEFA Champions League debut in Bayern’s 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid during the week.

However, when Javi Martinez was forced off the pitch with an injury after just 25 minutes, Hansi Flick called on Musiala to replace him.

It proved to be a masterstroke. Bayern were 1-0 down at the time, but were level just five minutes later as Kingsley Coman slipped the ball to unmarked Musiala on the edge of the Leipzig penalty area. He took a touch and then lashed in a low shot past Peter Gulacsi for his third Bundesliga goal of the season.

Considering the club's youngest-ever goalscorer has played just 215 Bundesliga minutes so far in 2020/21, that means he is averaging a goal every 72 minutes on the pitch – a ratio bettered only by Robert Lewandowski.

Müller, who got Bayern's other two goals against Leipzig to secure a draw that maintains their two-point lead at the top of the table was suitably impressed.

"When a 17-year-old comes on, the demands on someone as talented as him are as high as they are for any other player," he told bundesliga.com at the final whistle.

"Jamal had some great moments today. In some situations you could still see his inexperience. He can work on that over time, but overall I'm very happy with him."
