Robert Lewandowski got his hands on a sixth top-scorer cannon with a new Bundesliga record 41 goals.
Robert Lewandowski got his hands on a sixth top-scorer cannon with a new Bundesliga record 41 goals.

Robert Lewandowski toppled Gerd Müller's 49-year-old record to claim a sixth Torjägerkanone with 41 goals, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Andre Silva and Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland setting personal records with 28 and 27 respectively to come second and third behind the red-hot Pole.

Robert Lewandowski

Club: Bayern Munich
Age: 32
Games: 29 (28 starts)
Goals: 41
Minutes per goal: 60

Müller's 1971/72 feat appeared untouchable until Lewandowski came along, and the Poland captain snatched the record outright with the very last kick of the 2020/21 campaign. Bayern's prolific Pole moved into second position outright in the Bundesliga's all-time scoring chart on Matchday 26, his hat-trick against Stuttgart moving him clear of Schalke legend Klaus Fischer's tally of 268 Bundesliga goals. He is now behind only Müller's overall haul of 365. With his goal against Freiburg on Matchday 33, Lewandowski equalled Der Bomber's record single-season tally of 40 from 1971/72, but he needed the full 90 minutes of the final day against Augsburg to find the record-breaking 41st goal with the last kick of the game.

Andre Silva

Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Age: 25
Games: 32 (32 starts)
Goals: 28
Minutes per goal: 99

In an ordinary season, Andre Silva would have fancied his chances of picking up the Torjägerkanone with his club record 28 goals, but Lewandowski is no ordinary goalscorer and the Portuguese hitman had to settle for second place. He was nevertheless key to Frankfurt's excellent campaign, accounting for over 40 percent of their 69 goals. The Portugal international only failed to score in nine of his league appearances, netting seven braces as he raced past his haul of 12 goals from 2019/20. He extended his record for the most goals by a Frankfurt player in a single season to 28 by scoring again on the final day of the season in Freiburg.

Andre Silva celebrated one of his club record 28 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt this season.

Erling Haaland

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Age: 20
Games: 28 (27 starts)
Goals: 27
Minutes per goal: 89

Haaland scored his 11th Bundesliga brace of the season as Dortmund beat Bayer Leverkusen on the final day of the season. Incidentally, he reached 100 career goals in fewer outings than the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo (146 appearances), and has 40 Bundesliga goals to his name - in 43 games.

Erling Haaland has a total of 40 Bundesliga goals in just 43 German top-flight appearances.

Andrej Kramaric

Club: Hoffenheim
Age: 29
Games: 28 (26 starts)
Goals: 20
Minutes per goal: 119

After scoring seven across his first four outings of the season, Kramaric ended a three-game goal drought with back-to-back braces in wins over Hertha Berlin and Cologne. Another six-game drought ended on Matchday 30, when he scored two against Gladbach. The Croatian reached 18 for the season in a come-from-behind 4-2 win over Schalke on Matchday 32. Kramaric set a new club record of 19 goals in a single season, beating the record previously held by Vedad Ibisevic, with a fifth-minute strike against Bielefeld on Matchday 33, before hitting his 20th on the final day of the season.

Hoffenheim's Andrej Kramaric set a new club record with his 20 goals for the Sinsheimers this season.

Wout Weghorst

Club: Wolfsburg
Age: 28
Games: 34 (33 starts)
Goals: 20
Minutes per goal: 147

After equalling his single-season personal best tally of 17 on Matchday 26, the big Dutchman overtook it on Matchday 28 with a goal in the 4-3 defeat to Frankfurt and added another in the narrow 3-2 defeat at home to Bayern Munich on Matchday 29. After Grafite and Edin Dzeko (twice), he became only the third Wolfsburg player to hit 20 goals in a single season with another goal against VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 30 - his last of the campaign.

Wout Weghorst became only the third Wolfsburg player to score 20 in a single season.

Sasa Kalajdzic

Club: VfB Stuttgart
Age: 23
Games: 32 (22 starts)
Goals: 16
Minutes per goal: 133

Stuttgart's Austrian forward scored in each of the opening three games of the season. He didn't strike again until Matchday 12 with a brace against Union Berlin but netted in seven straight games across February and March, notching his 13th of the campaign in a 2-0 win over Hoffenheim on Matchday 25, equalling a club record set by Fredi Bobic back in 1995/96. Kalajdzic got his 15th of the campaign with another header - a league-high eighth - against Augsburg on Matchday 32. Kalajdzic was in the right place at the right time to score Stuttgart's second goal and give them an impressive come-from-behind victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 33 to end the season with 16.

It was quite a debut Bundesliga season for VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic, with 16 goals.

Lars Stindl

Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Age: 32
Games: 29 (23 starts)
Goals: 14
Minutes per goal: 140

Stindl enjoyed a strong Hinrunde with nine goals, including a hat-trick against Frankfurt on Matchday 12. The Gladbach captain then brought up double figures on Matchday 22 in a 2-1 home loss to Mainz, and was on the scoresheet again in a 3-0 win over Schalke. He struck his 12th of the campaign from the penalty spot in the 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin on Matchday 28. Stindl would have to wait until Matchday 33 to notch another goal, which he did by opening the scoring on the stroke of halftime against Stuttgart, and he ended the campaign in style with a career-best 14th of the season as Gladbach condemned Werder Bremen to relegation on the final day.

Lucas Alario

Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Age: 31
Games: 25 (12 starts)
Goals: 11
Minutes per goal: 112

Alario scored eight goals between Matchdays 4 and 11, but didn't find the net again until Matchday 21. He moved onto double figures with the opening goal in Bayer's 2-1 home win over Schalke on Matchday 27 and added another from the bench against Frankfurt on Matchday 31, before injury brought a premature end to his season.

Bayer Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario enjoyed career-best goalscoring form in this season's Bundesliga.

Silas Wamangituka

Club: VfB Stuttgart
Age: 21
Games: 25 (24 starts)
Goals: 11
Minutes per goal: 174

Wamangituka was one of the revelations during Stuttgart's return to the top flight, and in the Bundesliga in general in 2020/21. The Congolese moved onto double figures on Matchday 18, albeit in a losing effort to south-west rivals Freiburg, and the last time he got his name on the scoresheet was in a 2-0 win over Mainz on Matchday 19.

Silas Wamangituka was one of Stuttgart’s go-to men for goals in 2020/21.

Thomas Müller

Club: Bayern Munich
Age: 31
Games: 31 (30 starts)
Goals: 11
Minutes per goal: 243

Müller reached double figures in the league for the first time since 2015/16, bringing up that mark in the 4-1 win over Hoffenheim on Matchday 19. In addition to his 11 goals, Müller defended his crown as the assist king by supplying 18 goals for his teammates.

Thomas Müller was on fire for Bayern Munich once again in 2020/21, with goals and assists aplenty

Max Kruse

Club: Union Berlin
Age: 33
Games: 21 (18 starts)
Goals: 11
Minutes per goal: 148

Kruse missed a large chunk of the season through injury, but his quality is still there for all to see - even at 33. Five of his 11 goals this term have come from the penalty spot, while he notched his ninth and tenth of the campaign in a 5-2 defeat to Frankfurt on Matchday 26. Arguably one of his most important came in stoppage time on the final day of the season, though, as he earned Union Berlin qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League with a 2-1 win over RB Leipzig.

Max Kruse may have missed much of the season through injury, but the veteran was still the team’s top scorer.
