Union Berlin have strengthened their attack for the 2022/23 season by signing USA international forward Jordan Siebatcheu.

Siebatcheu is moving to the German capital after finishing last season as the Swiss Super League's top goalscorer with 22 league goals in 32 appearances for Young Boys. He also netted five times in the UEFA Champions League, including an injury-time winner in a famous group-stage victory over Manchester United in September 2021.

The 26-year-old will be seen as a direct replacement for Taiwo Awoniyi - the Union talisman last term - who joined Nottingham Forest this summer after getting 15 Bundesliga goals in 2021/22.

"After two successful years in Bern, where I had the perfect environment to develop as a young player, I'm now taking the next step in my career," he told the Union website. "I want to prove myself in the Bundesliga and I'm confident I've found the right club in Union. Their style of play suits me very well and I'm looking forward to playing in the unbelievable atmosphere at the Alte Försterei.

Siebatcheu was born in Washington but moved to France at an early age, where he played for Reims, Chateauroux and Rennes.

The 6'2" frontman left for Switzerland in 2020, helping Young Boys become Swiss champions with 12 league goals that season.

He got 27 goals in all competitions next time around, with his side finishing third in the league and picking up five points in the Champions League group stage after coming through the qualifying rounds.

Siebatcheu's parents are from Cameroon but he represented the France U21 team before switching to the country of his birth at senior level. He made his USMNT debut in a friendly against Jamaica in March 2021, and now has one goal from his nine caps.

“Jordan is a striker who will fit in well with us with his style of play and can operate in different systems," said Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s managing director for professional football. "We're excited about him, his goalscoring ability and that he has chosen Union."
