DFL and Bundesliga honour Auschwitz liberation

On January 27th 2023, the DFL and clubs across the Bundesliga will come together to mark the 78th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The day was designated as international Holocaust Remembrance Day by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005.

For the past 19 years, German football has used the platform of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matchdays that are held around 27 January to annually commemorate the liberation of Auschwitz in honour of the victims who were persecuted, deported and murdered under the Nazi regime.

This year, the initiative is spread across Matchdays 18 and 19 in Germany's top two divisions.

In 2017, the World Jewish Congress and UNESCO launched the #WeRemember campaign. Ever since then, the social media campaign offers a simple way to participate and connect globally in remembrance and to speak out against anti-semitism and discrimination today.
