Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund youngster Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scored within seconds of coming off the bench to pave the way for a 2-0 win away to Werder Bremen, extending BVB's winning sequence to five straight Bundesliga games.
Bremen 0-2 Dortmund
Goals: 0-1 Bynoe-Gittens 67' (assist: Schlotterbeck), 0-2 Brandt 85' (assist: Guerreiro)
With the dramatic 3-2 defeat back in August still fresh in their memories – Dortmund having thrown away a 2-0 lead in the 89th minute – the visitors began with purpose here and soon dominated possession. Marco Reus had a shot well saved by Jiri Pavlenka and Julian Ryerson drilled wide from the edge of the box in a first half that was short on clear-cut openings. At the other end of the pitch Niclas Füllkrug kept Nico Schlotterbeck on his toes, but could only head wide from eight yards with the best of his chances.
It was a similar story in the second half, with Dortmund on top and creating more opportunities but struggling to convert them. Jude Bellingham had the best of the lot early on with a close-range volley that draw a fine save from Pavlenka. Füllkrug looped a header over before a Bynoe-Gittens’ introduction changed the course of the game, the teenager smashing in an unstoppable left-footed shot within seconds of taking to the pitch. Bremen were forced to commit more men forward in search of an equaliser as a result and were eventually caught out on the counter when Raphael Guerreiro played in Julian Brandt, who finished expertly to seal a well-deserved win for Edin Terzic’s side.
