With Bayern Munich winning a record-extending 33rd Bundesliga title, plans are under way to mark the achievement in the city centre. But where exactly do they hold their celebrations?
Vincent Kompany's Bayern regained the Bundesliga crown with two games to spare, meaning the title celebrations may well start much before the planned party at Marienplatz on 18 May.
The team will first be presented with the Meisterschale on the pitch after their final home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on the penultimate matchday, but it's in the city centre where they will later bring the trophy to the people.
Clubs in England will often hold open-top bus parades, but on the continent teams will frequently gather around a notable landmark. Borussia Dortmund celebrate at the site of their founding, Borsigplatz; Real Madrid in Spain party at the Plaza de Cibeles - both busy thoroughfare. Bayern's beloved spot is a square called Marienplatz in the old town.
As for why it's held at Marienplatz, it's a tradition that spans decades for the club, allowing for staff, players and fans alike to recognise and celebrate the accomplishments at the end of the season.
Dating back to the 1600s, the square is a central hub of the city and used to hold markets and tournaments. To this day, it's used as one of the locations where the Christmas markets are erected each year.
Crucially though, overlooking Marienplatz, which will be flooded with a sea of red shirts on the day, is the town hall. The old building is endowed with a large balcony, offering a good vantage point for the Bayern stars to be seen holding the Meisterschale aloft by their fans. Speeches are also commonplace from players, to club staff, and even to the Mayor of Munich, who is often in attendance as well.
At any rate, this year's celebrations at Marienplatz may prove to be even more special considering what Bayern have achieved this season. Successfully reclaiming the title by knocking reigning champions and previously undefeated Bayer Leverkusen off their pedestal will offer retribution to many Munich fans who may feel the title is back where it belongs.
Additionally, victory over Werder Bremen in the DFB Cup saw the club's now three-time defending women's champions complete the double for the first time in their history.
Many times in the past (most recently at the end of 2022/23), both the men's and women's teams have come together at Marienplatz for a complete celebration of the club as a whole, and they are expected to do so again this time around.
Finally, in amongst it all will be an extra celebration of firsts and lasts. For star striker Harry Kane, this will mark the first ever major trophy the Englishman has won in his career. However, with club legend Thomas Müller set to depart in the summer, there may be a few teary eyes as the Raumdeuter lifts his final Meisterschale in front of Munich's iconic square.
