Will anyone stop Guirassy?

Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy is currently in the form of his career, and it seems there isn’t a defence in the Bundesliga that can keep him quiet.

BVB continued their unbeaten start to the 2025/26 campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Heidenheim on Matchday 3. Unsurprisingly, Guirassy was at the heart of the win, opening the scoring with a clinical header.

It was Dortmund's fourth competitive match of season, and Guirassy has been on the scoresheet on every occasion.

This kind of form is hardly a purple patch at the start of a new term, either: the 29-year-old has now scored in each of his last eight Bundesliga matches stretching back to last season.

If that sounds simple on paper, in reality it is anything but. For context, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the last Dortmund man to do so back in 2015.

Guirassy has also found the back of the net 21 times in the league so far in 2025 – only Kylian Mbappé has managed more in Europe’s top five divisions this calendar year. Yet Mbappé couldn’t keep up with Guirassy in last season’s UEFA Champions League, with the Guinea striker ending up with a competition-leading 13 goals.

With 74 goals in all competitions since the start of 2023/24, Guirassy has established himself as one of the leading strikers in European and world football.

Head coach Niko Kovač is under no illusions as to how important he is to his side. Following the Matchday 2 win over Union Berlin, the Croatian said: “I've used the term 'life insurance' several times. Serhou is a very important player for us. Bayern have Harry Kane, Man City have Erling Haaland, and we have Guirassy."

After last season’s fourth-place finish, Dortmund will want to move up the table rather than look over their shoulders, and they have made a solid start as they look to put the pressure on defending champions Bayern Munich

Vincent Kompany's side may be two points clear at the top of the table, but Dortmund are one of three teams in their wake, and much of that is down to Guirassy.

Will BVB be able to mount serious title challenge this season? With Guirassy in this kind of form, you wouldn't want to bet against them.
