Key stats

Despite still only being 24 years old, Augsburg’s new man will bring plenty of experience to the club’s midfield, having already appeared 162 times across the English Premier League and Championship, and France’s Ligue 1.

Massengo spent the first half of last season at Burnley in the Championship, where he made eight appearances before being sent on loan to Auxerre. In France, Massengo became a regular for the club where he had already had one successful spell earlier in his career, featuring 17 times as Auxerre secured a comfortable mid-table position.

Massengo made an appearance against UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Massengo started his career in France at AS Monaco, where he was given his debut by football legend Thierry Henry at just 17 years of age in a UEFA Champions League match before moving on to Bristol City in England’s second-tier the following season. The 5'9" midfielder, who has represented France at various youth levels up until U21s, made the most appearances for one club of his career with 110.

With Frank Onyeka returning to Brentford after a successful loan spell at Augsburg last season, Massengo could help to fill the void left by the Nigerian as he becomes the squad’s fourth Frenchman alongside Alexis Claude-Maurice, Chrislain Matsima and new signing Kyliane Dong.

Plays a bit like: A young Leon Goretzka

Although Leon Goretzka now plays in a system where Bayern Munich have the majority of the ball, during his Schalke days, the Germany international had more opportunities to run with the ball. This is something that represents Massengo’s game well. The Frenchman is tenacious and energetic, and he loves to transition through midfield at pace when there is space in front of him, often moving out wide if the flanks are vacant. He also tends to drop deeper to play long balls when his team are in control of possession.

Did you know?

Massengo is not just a talented footballer, but he is also a model and photographer, having taken part in numerous sports fashion campaigns, including one for PUMA’s Super Team Velvet trainer. Away from the pitch, Augsburg’s new man is very passionate about fashion and loves to spend his spare time taking photographs of nature and the cities that surround him.

Massengo's game has a number of similarities to that of a young Leon Goretzka.

What they’re saying

"With Han-Noah, we’ve signed a highly promising and very dynamic midfielder. His arrival gives us even more depth and versatility in the centre of the pitch. Despite being only 24, he already brings plenty of experience and still has great potential for development." - Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll

"He is tough. He's really forceful in the tackle. He reminds me a bit of Edgar Davids." - former Auxerre midfielder Édouard Cissé

"When he moves it he’s so quick and sharp, his technique is frightening… You can trust him on the ball in any situation." - ex-Bristol city captain Dan Bentley
