Marvin Dills has caught the attention of Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller, who has included the teenager in his pre-season squad to tour the USA. But who is the German-American midfielder?
Data correct as of 22 July 2025
Marvin Dills
Age: 18 (born 25 April 2007)
Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Position: Midfield
Country: USA (four U18 caps)
The 18-year-old midfield magician, who is comfortable playing in both attacking midfield and slightly deeper, began pulling the strings in the black and red of Frankfurt in 2018, when he joined the club’s academy from local youth side TuS Makkabi Frankfurt.
Dills hasn’t looked back since, climbing the youth football ladder with unmistakable confidence, so much so that he has been promoted to the Eagles' reserves after only one year with the U19s.
Those efforts at youth level also led to his inclusion in first-team training, where he has impressed first-team boss Toppmöller in pre-season, who named him in the squad for the club‘s tour of the United States between 22 July and 3 August. Toppmöller also gave him an hour in the side’s starting XI for their fixture against local rivals FSV Frankfurt as they gear up for the start of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season.
“He was a bit nervous at first, but then he did really well” said Toppmöller, as Dills completed an impressive first-team debut, including an assist for Can Uzun.
At international level, Dills is eligible to represent both Germany and the USA, and has appeared for both countries’ U18 sides this year. The Frankfurt-born midfielder debuted for Germany against Austria in March and has won two caps in total so far, before making his first outing for the Stars and Stripes - eligible via his family - in June.
He has four caps in total for the USA, all of which came during the UEFA Friendship Cup, where the Americans beat France, Argentina, Australia and Portugal on their way to lifting the trophy, with Dills also being named player of the tournament.
Plays a bit like: Romano Schmid
A diminutive, attack-minded midfielder who thrives in tight spaces and is always looking to create chances for his teammates, Dills shares plenty of similarities with Werder Bremen’s creative engine. Aside from putting goals on a plate for their forwards, both Dills and Schmid also have an eye for goal themselves and won’t hesitate to test the opposition ‘keeper.

Alongside the UEFA Friendship Cup, Dills has also won the Bundesliga South/Southwest with Frankfurt’s U17 team in the 2023/24 season.
What they’re saying
“We are delighted that Marvin will continue his development at Eintracht Frankfurt in the coming years. With him, we are tying down a very talented attacking player who has trained for many years at our youth academy and will now take his first steps in men's football.” - Timmo Hardung, Frankfurt sporting director
