Jamal Musiala made history as Bayern Munich took another step towards a ninth successive Bundesliga title with a 3-2 win at Wolfsburg.

RB Leipzig's failure to beat Hoffenheim on Friday presented Bayern with the opportunity to go seven points clear at the summit. The record champions duly obliged, but not before Manuel Neuer had kept out Ridle Baku early doors. Musiala showed the watching world how to do it with 15 minutes on the clock, the 18-year-old waltzing past three Wolfsburg shirts before firing beyond Koen Casteels. Leroy Sane spurned quick-fire chances, but there was no way Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was fluffing his lines in the 24th minute. Casteels dropped an uncharacteristic clanger to quite literally hand the ball to the Bayern forward, who couldn't miss from six yards. Wout Weghorst reduced the arrears with a sensational first-time strike, only for Bayern to restore their two-goal cushion with their next attack. Thomas Müller crossed for Musiala, who became the youngest player in Bundesliga history to reach six career goals courtesy of a quite brilliant looping header.
Musiala went desperately close to completing his hat-trick soon after the restart. The freshly minted Germany international did everything right as he took possession from Müller, but his goal-bound shot was hooked off the line by Maxence Lacroix. Wolfsburg heeded the warning, and cut the deficit to one in the 54th minute. Paulo Otavio was given all the time in the world to whip a cross over towards the near post, where Maximilian Philipp dispatched a thunderous finish high into the roof of Neuer's goal. Weghorst was in the thick of things as he shot wide following a corner, before drawing a superb save from Neuer in a one-on-one. Jerome Roussillon had an even better chance to rescue a point for Oliver Glasner's side with five minutes of normal time remaining, but the Wolfsburg substitute dragged his effort wide from inside the Bayern area. Despite the defeat - their first on home soil in this season's Bundesliga - the Wolves stay third in the standings with five rounds of fixtures remaining.
