Jonas Wind scored a 117th-minute winner as Wolfsburg reached the DFB Cup round of 16 at the expense of Nuri Şahin's Borussia Dortmund.
Wolfsburg 1-0 Dortmund (aet)
Goals: 1-0 Wind 117' (assist: Kamiński)
With Wolfsburg winless at home this season and Dortmund having lost three of their last four competitive outings, the match was something of a slow burner with neither side wanting to make any costly mistakes. It burst into life in the 14th minute though, when Nico Schlotterbeck strode forward into midfield, shimmied his way past a marker and threaded a brilliant pass through for Maximilian Beier. The summer signing only was left with only goalkeeper Kamil Grabara to beat but saw his shot crash off the post. That was the best chance of a cautious first half, with a powerful Kevin Wimmer drive that fizzed narrowly wide the best Wolfsburg could muster before the break.
The match followed a similar pattern after the restart: plenty of midfield battles but little by way of goalmouth action. But when they did come, they were invariably for Dortmund. Serhou Guirassy headed over from a Pascal Groß cross early on and had another header saved by Grabara a short time later, while Julian Brandt skewed a fiercely struck shot over the bar after a jinking run by Jamie Gittens. There were no goals before the 90 minutes were up though, sending the game into extra time. That very nearly changed just seconds into extra time when ex-Dortmund man Salih Özcan crossed for Tiago Tomas, whose first-time shot grazed the crossbar. The contest looked poised to be settled on penalties, when substitute Wind found the bottom corner after the BVB defence had failed to deal with a cross from the left.

As it happened!
Bensebaini is cautioned after bringing down Tomás right on the edge of the penalty area, but the free-kick comes to nothing. One minute of additional time at the end of the 120...
Late drama at the Volkswagen-Arena. Dortmund don't deal with Maehle's left-wing cross. Gerhardt wins the header and it drops for Wind who, surrounded by BVB shirts, pings a shot into the bottom corner.
Schlotterbeck fires goalwards from inside the box. His shot bounces up off Maehle's leg, possibly hitting his hand, but the referee is unmoved. He's then booked for his protestations.
Jordi Paulina, 20, makes his first-team debut. The Dutchman has made 10 appearances for the Dortmund reserves so far this season...
Bensebaini stops Wind from connecting with a cross from the left, the Algerian getting his shoulder in the way at the expense of a corner, which comes to nothing.
Campbell runs at the Wolfsburg defence, but is blocked off by two defenders after trying to move the ball onto his stronger left side.
Dortmund's head coach turns to his young American prospect, with Malen making way.
A Dortmund corner sails across the face of goal. Nmecha connects at the back post, his rising drive deflecting off an outstretched boot and a stray hand before Wolfsburg clear.
The Austrian's direct running has really lifted Dortmund. Suddenly, the Wolfsburg defence is rocking...
Could be Gittens who makes way after taking a heavy bump from a defender a moment ago...
Massive chance for Wolfsburg as Tomás side-foots Özcan's low cross onto the bar, with Kobel beaten all ends up.
All the other day's ties have been wrapped up inside 90 minutes. Who'll prevail as Kaminski clears Kobel's crossbar from 18 yards?
Wolfsburg get a couple of balls into the box, but the Dortmund defence fend them off. There's the whistle - extra-time it is!
Gittens draws the foul from Fischer, winning a free-kick to the right of the Wolfsburg area, but Brandt curls his cross straight into the arms of Grabara.
Kobel is out quickly to block at the feet of Maehle, just as the Wolfsburg left-back threatened to pull a pass back for a teammate. Özcan heads the ensuing corner off target. What a story that would have been against his former club!
Majer walks off to be replaced by ex-Dortmund midfielder Salih Özcan. The fourth official's board has just indicated eight minutes of added time. Will we see a winner, or are we set for extra-time...?
It doesn't look good for the Wolfsburg man, who's down receiving treatment. He's only just come back from an ankle problem...
The Wolfsburg sub blazes over after connecting with a free-kick from the right in the Dortmund box. He was leaning back and surrounded by BVB shirts - those ones are never easy.
Nmecha's back on - perhaps that tumble wasn't as serious as first feared. He is cradling his left arm, though...
Nmecha is down and Sahin on his feet looking very concerned, after the BVB midfielder appears to dislocate his left shoulder.
Hasenhüttl shuffles his pack for the final 10 minutes or so of normal time. His side have largely been second best since the restart.
Maehle powers into the BVB box, but can only direct his cross into the side netting. He simply ran out of space to manoeuvre.
The Dortmund midfielder is very close to nestling a fierce strike into the top corner, following great play by Gittens. That was travelling!
Wimmer, right sock down, open wound on show, is replaced by Tiago Tomás in the Wolfsburg attack.
Groß sends over an inviting cross for Gittens, whose shot is blocked by Baku. Wolfsburg are readying a change...
Really good goalkeeping by the Wolfsburg custodian to push Guirassy's towering header over the crossbar. The resultant corner is cleared, but BVB are in the ascendancy here...
Wolfsburg's captain is booked for deliberately bringing down Malen, stopping a possible BVB break in the process. You don't get to 426 senior appearances for one club without learning a trick or two...
He's moving gingerly, but will try to run off that nasty challenge. Could have been a lot worse for him...
Nmecha is very lucky to only receive a caution for a studs-up tackle on Wimmer. It wasn't intentional, which is perhaps why the Dortmund midfielder is still on the pitch - that and the absence of VAR.
He can't get over the ball following a strong run and cross from Groß, who has really impressed as BVB's makeshift right-back.
Malen gets away from his man, but his low shot is too close to Grabara.
... but will we see a goal in the second half, or is this one heading for extra-time and penalties?
Dardai's cross form the right is blocked out by the diving Kobel, the Swiss stopper's handy work pushing it way from the unmarked Wimmer. Inches in that.
Amoura's acrobatic clearance from a corner isn't the best, but Wolfsburg manage to win the ball back and break. Their Algerian No.9 leads the charge, playing a teasing ball across goal that neither Majer nor Wimmer can turn goalwards.
