Wolfsburg held at home by Frankfurt

Wolfsburg lost their 100 per cent record but remain unbeaten after Wout Weghorst got their equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Wolfsburg 1-1 Frankfurt
Goals: 0-1 Lammers (38'), 1-1 Weghorst (70')

After draws in Europe in midweek, both teams were back on the domestic beat, bidding to boost their bids for more European football next season. Wolfsburg, who had won their first four Bundesliga games of 2021/22, went the closest to breaking the deadlock inside the first 20 minutes when Weghorst headed against the crossbar. The hosts were having the better of the game, but it was Frankfurt who drew first blood when Sam Lammers, who was on target in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, met Filip Kostic's cross from the left and placed his shot in with aplomb to celebrate his first Bundesliga goal.

Wolfsburg had not managed to win any of their last 42 Bundesliga games in which they were behind at half-time, but Weghorst was keen to change that statistic as he volleyed the first shot of the second half over. Wolfsburg finally levelled with 20 minutes to go, and it was that man Weghorst who was on hand to guide the ball inside the post after Kevin Trapp pushed Luca Waldschmidt's shot away. Not happy only with a share of the spoils, Wolfsburg doubled their efforts to take all three points and Josuha Guilavogui tested Trapp with their next attempt. Lukas Nmecha had a goal ruled out in stoppage time for offside, but there was to be no way through for the Wolves, who failed to win in the Bundesliga for the first time this season.
