Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Belgian teenager Aster Vranckx on a four-year deal.

The 18-year-old midfielder will see out the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign with Mechelen, before moving to the Volkswagen Arena in the summer.

"VfL are a great club who have always been able to develop young players in the past," Vracnkx told the Wolfsburg website. "Young players at Wolfsburg have excellent opportunities to take the next step, and I’m already looking forward to being part of the team from next summer. Until then, I’ll continue to give my all for Mechelen so that we have a successful season."

Vranckx has made 10 appearances in the Jupiler League so far this season, scoring three goals in what is his second campaign with the senior side. Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer, for one, likes what he has seen of the Beligum U19 international.

"We’re delighted that Aster is going to strengthen us from next summer and that we’ve been able to tie him down long-term," he said. "He’s a very talented player who became a first-team regular for Mechelen at the age of 17, and he can operate in different roles in midfield. He’s fully on board with the path that we want to take at VfL and it’s going to be fun working with him and developing him."
